Porcelain veneers are the perfect solution for restoring stained, cracked, chipped, or otherwise damaged teeth. Dental veneers are extremely thin substances made to match or enhance the current color of your teeth.
La Grange dentist, Dr. Qureshi affixes veneers to the front of your affected teeth with specialized dental cement and a curing light. Once in place, your new veneer improves both the function and appearance of your teeth. It is a simple and painless way to get the smile you have always wanted.
Your First Appointment
Patients need to come in for two separate appointments to receive their new veneers. During the first session, Dr. Qureshi first assesses the overall health of all your teeth and your gums. If he finds a specific problem, it may be necessary to receive treatment for that issue first. Assuming you’re ready to proceed, he completes two important steps during your first session together.
In order for your new tooth covering to fit and blend in well with surrounding teeth, Dr. Qureshi needs to file off a tiny amount of tooth enamel. If he didn’t do this, the teeth would appear much larger than your other teeth. The entire process involves removing approximately one-eighth of a millimeter of tooth enamel.
Next, he takes a mold of your teeth where he will attach the new veneers. Our dental laboratory uses the impressions to create your permanent veneers. You can opt to receive a temporary veneer before leaving the office or wait until your next appointment in approximately two weeks to receive your permanent ones.
Your Second Appointment
When you come in for your final fitting, Dr. Qureshi cleans the affected teeth and the dental veneers one last time. He then uses an etching gel to roughen the surfaces of your teeth in preparation to receive the new veneer. This is essential for the wafer-like substance to adhere to the surface of your teeth. After the etching process is complete, the final step is to use a special curing light to cause the cement to harden. As long as you practice good oral hygiene and are careful not to place undue stress on the affected teeth, your tooth veneers should last for several years.
